Jim has spent most of his business career in the insurance and retirement plan business.  Prior to joining Designed Protection Insurance Services, Jim spent 23 years working for Manulife Financial and John Hancock Life Insurance Company. He led the retirement and group insurance business in the western region for 15 years, and finished his tenure as the Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing in the US Insurance Division.  In 2007, Jim co-founded San Pasqual Fiduciary Trust Company in Los Angeles, a boutique trust company where he served as the founding President.  He also co-founded Proteus Environmental Technologies, a strategic consulting firm focused on sustainable technologies. Jim served as the firm’s Managing Director. 

 

Jim is a recognized expert in Employee Benefit Plans, and Retirement Plans, both qualified and non-qualified plans. His primary focus is serving employer groups with 50 or more employees throughout California. 

 

Jim is a board member of The Braille Institute of America, and has served on the board of the Huntington Medical Research Institutes and the Occidental College Board of Governors.  He lives in Pasadena with his wife Susie and they have four adult children.
